As I once said to a friend of mine (Facebook and Twitter fiend, Pat Stansik) “It’s better to be a social media whore than an actual one.” I stand by that statement and think that it is starting to apply more than ever to the lax world (but Pat really is a social media whooore, so follow him on Twitter @PatStansik and watch his videos or he will find you).
Twitter has taken over and there are more laxers than ever trying to fit all of their thoughts (and workouts) into 140 characters or less. So if you’re new to the Twitterverse and you care to lax, who should you be following? How lucky are you that you have me here, telling you?! So without further ado, your lax personalities to follow on Twitter:
Blobs: These are the blogs that you need to get familiar with, or it’ll be embarrassingly obvious you don’t know your shaft from your head (on your lax wand, you pervs).
Sha-duh. These bros are right in the thick of college lax, so if you don’t follow them, you’re doing yourself a serious disservice, and you’re already here reading their articles, why not get their news on the go? Exactly. There you go, click “follow”. (Also, @TheRealLaxBro. If you don’t follow him by now, I don’t really know what you’ve been doing this whole time)
Run by former Terp all-stars, this blog is amazing because…it’s where I started writing about lax haha. But seriously, these guys consistently have a jump on new gear (not just lax-related) and their LaxTracks are consistently top-played on my Ipod. (Plus, their Twitter game is unreal)
Run by a lovely group with the motto “Grow the Game”, this site was born of former DIII and MCLA laxers who know their schtuff. Plus, as an added bonus, Indiana coach Peter Tumbas runs his own satellite version called 412 Lax (@412_Lax) which is not only hilarious but incredibly informative. He takes no prisoners and that is both refreshing and terrifying. Follow both of these, plus their @SweetSweetLax for game gear and @24SevenLax for Maryland's (the heart and soul of the sport) perspective on the game.
Laxers!
The creator of the Flowbucket, Singer of such hits as “Come to My Party” (which may or may not have been my alarm clock song for months) and “Respect Your Partner.” NLL backflipper. The man has done it all, including winning the “Personality of the Year” Laxie for 2010. C’mon brewsefs, you already follow him, don’t you?
My love for Rabil is well-documented. Is that a good thing? No comment. Loves his fans, loves his Coach Dyer workouts, loves Chipotle. And if you don’t love Chipotle, you know what you are? Lying. It is delicious, and without following him on Twitter I wouldn’t know that 1) the Dulles airport is the only Chipotle location that serves breakfast 2) they now offer Brown rice. You’re welcome.
They say he’s the nicest in the game, and “they” are right. I have yet to meet anyone who has a bad thing to say about the Stallion, and I am at a loss myself. He tweets from the road and at home in LA and is constantly sharing new products from Nike and STX with his followers. Classic example of a nice guy finishing first.
Another well-documented lax crush, Seibald is the face of lax for those Nike Boom commercials that make you want to practice in the rain (before you remember how miserable playing in the rain is). An unstoppable Nike athlete and picture-poster on the Twitter machine.
Fun fact: When I still lived my double life as a flow-charting babe among bros, I met Ned and he swore to keep my “secret” identity a secret. (Then about a month later, I outed myself. Oh well. ) Who says chivalry is dead? Not this babe. Spectacular player, Trilogy lax coach and tweeter. Follow him.
Another entertaining Blue Devil who is quite adept at Twitter. Danowski gives his followers updates on the life of the Manchine and other various goings-on as a player for the LI Lizards and his coaching clinics. Plus he’s a nice boy from Long Island, and if you don’t like that then I don’t like you.
A Twitter monster, this one. Super talented ‘Cuse player and new Maverik athlete Jovan Miller is on Twitter more than any other person I follow. He has it down to a science, and is a great responder. Sincerely one of the more entertaining people who tweet on the Twitters.
You like mustaches and former UVA/current Mammoth and Outlaws players? Look no further. A rep for both Warrior and Brine tweeting about the Colorado life and being a road warrior, Clausen is a wildly entertaining person to follow. (Phun phact: Clausen is a big Phish phan. So if you like them, he does too!)
Honorable mentions:
@CaseyPowell22 (Eldest of the Powell clan/legend)
@MBelisle85 (Boston Cannon/Trilogy Lax coach/many more things)
@RhamelBratton/@ShamelBratton (The Bratton Bros)
@JohnGalloway (Former ‘Cuse goalie/Current Duke Blue Devil coach)
@GrantCatalino (The Big Cat)
@FlowGo37 (Jerry Ragonese- Heads up Pro Athletics and is a proud Rochester Rattler)
Companies:
@LAXUNLIMITED (The biggest and baddest lax company in the game, also counts as a blob, since their blog Lax U Nation is awesome. And I'm not just saying that because I've written for them, too. But I have. And it was awesome.)
@ArchLevelLax (Lax in England!)
@LacrosseRecruit (One of our sponsors for our Biggest And Best Lax Bro video contest!)
@HeadWrapz1 (Check out the wrap they did for UTB!)
And I feel like this goes without saying, but yeah you should follow me, too. @MarilynMonBRO. If you don't know, now ya know: Lax's Power Twits.
Haha
Haha
No category for national teams like @ITALIALAX? haha
